Trauma Sensitive Yoga (as developed at the Trauma Center in Brookline, Massachusetts, USA), specifically called TCTSY, is an evidence-based somatic practice for those affected by trauma, traumatic stress, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and other emotional conditions including anxiety and depression.

TCTSY is based on central components of hatha yoga which are modified to build trauma survivors’ experiences of empowerment and agency and cultivate a more positive relationship to one’s body. TCTSY classes offer opportunities for participants to make choices based on a felt sense of their body in the present moment.

TCTSY supports participants to:

  • connect with the sensations in their bodies

  • increase feelings of empowerment

  • rebuild and strengthen relationship to self and others

  • remain in the present moment
